Folie à Deux a “madness of two”.

Joker: Folie à Deux is an upcoming American musical psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips. The film serves as the sequel to Joker (2019). The film stars Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Arthur Fleck / Joker, alongside Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.

The sequel of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie has been anticipated after the first movie received critical as well as audience acclamations. The second movie in the series, Joker: Folie à Deux, is said to be a musical story focusing on Lady Gaga’s character of Harley Quinn. As first look photos of Gaga’s take on the character have set the internet on buzz, a new video from the sets shows the actress singing as Harley Quinn.

The upcoming superhero movie musical has enlisted the talent of one of the world’s best singers. In continuation of the madness with a musical twist, the new set video has hyped up fans. A video posted by a fan account of the Joker movie shared a sneak peek at Lady Gaga singing as Harley Quinn on the set of Joker: Folie à Deux.

The choice by director Todd Phillips to take Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux was questioned by DC fans. However, as her first look came out, they were enthralled and convinced she could easily pull the job – similar to the reaction to most castings of previous Batman actors such as Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson.

Joker: Folie à Deux being a musical is a great choice, while unconventional, as it allows for a deep dive into the minds of the Joker and Harley Quinn, as the duo falls in love at Arkham Asylum, and attempts to escape, as set photos and videos suggest.

Joker 2: Folie à Deux is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024.

From the sight of Harley Quinn visiting the steps and the background context of the protests to free Joker, there’s a significant suggestion that she will be a fan of Joker, which could replace her therapist potential. In that context, the dance becomes a curiously morbid tribute to Joker as a fanaticist. Particularly as he would go on to murder Robert De Niro’s Murray Franklin very nearly after his dance. That alone suggests the dangerous idolization that Joker 2 seems to be invested is as an idea.

So far, it remains unclear if Joker: Folie à Deux will depict Harley as Joker’s psychiatrist like in the comics. There have been theories that they are both patients of Arkham Asylum. Lady Gaga’s Harley was recently seen in a mugshot image, seemingly confirming the suggestion. Set photos and videos have also given a good look at her Harley costume. Based on the design, it is likely meant to be reminiscent of Phoenix’s Joker suit. Needless to say, Lady Gaga as Harley is going to be one of the coolest 2024’s comic book movie moments. With the musical aspect as well, it will be intriguing to see what Phillips has in store for audience members. As Joker: Folie à Deux gets closer to wrapping, it’ll hopefully not be long until the first trailer is released.
